Accurate asphalt estimation requires accounting for compaction (shrinkage). Hot mix asphalt typically shrinks by about 15-20% when rolled.
- Density: We use the standard 145 lbs/cu ft.
- Sub-Base: A solid foundation usually requires 4-6 inches of crushed gravel.
- Waste: Always add 5% for straight driveways and 10% for curved edges.
